Somali Union Cooperatives Movement Celebrates International Cooperative Day
On July 6, the Somali Union Cooperatives Movement proudly joined the global community in commemorating the International Day of Cooperatives, an event celebrated annually under the banner of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA).
This year’s celebration marked a significant milestone, bringing together nearly 2,000 cooperative members from across Somalia, representing diverse sectors including
🔹 Agriculture
🔹 Fishing
🔹 Consumer and Service
🔹 Transportation and Construction
🔹 Industries and Handcraft
🔹 Livestock, Forestry, and Incense
The event served as a powerful platform to:
Highlight the vital role cooperatives play in advancing inclusive economic development
Promote the values of solidarity, self-help, democracy, and sustainability.
Strengthen unity among cooperative societies nationwide
Inspire youth and women to engage in cooperative entrepreneurship
The Chairman of the Somali Union Cooperatives and heads of various cooperative sectors delivered speeches, congratulating the Somali Union Cooperatives Movement and the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) for this remarkable day and their continued efforts in strengthening cooperative development in Somalia.
